Smartpens and Pencasts

A Smartpen is a digital pen containing a microphone, infrared camera, a processor, and memory. With a smartpen it is easy to record notes, sketches, and a narration. Such a recording is called a pencast and can be exported as a PDF document.

Pencasts are useful for explaining theory, mathematical proofs, equations etc. and to feedback which can not be explained by regular text. You can read more about smartpens at Livescribe.com.

A screencast – or tabletcast – is an alternative to pencasts that does not require special paper or writing utensils. Instead, you can use your tablet or computer
