A screencast – or tabletcast – is a digital recording of a computer or tablet screen, which often contains an oral explanation.

Screencasts can be used for, for example, individual or group feedback, examination of parts of the curriculum, cases, equations, and the like. They are easy to create and share, and they allow for oral explanations and sketches of things that cannot easily be expressed using plain text.

Smartpens and pencasts

If you prefer the feeling of using paper to draw, write, and explain, it is possible to do so with a so-called smartpen. A smartpen is an electronic pen equipped with a microphone, an infrared camera, and minicomputer. A recording is called a pencast and can be saved as a PDF document.
