In this type of assessment student simulate a real-life environment, often using computer software, virtual reality or similar. This type of assessment is often considered if the real-life equivalent is very expensive, very challenging or unavailable. An example is performing a lab experiment in a virtual lab that would be otherwise impossible. For long distance students this can be an alternative to a real lab experiment. Simulations can also allow students to visit remote or dangerous locations.
